Air New Zealand has a code share relationship with Virgin Atlantic on their flights between San Francisco and London and between Hong Kong and Sydney.
In addition Virgin Atlantic code shares on several Air New Zealand sectors including between San Francisco and Auckland, Los Angeles and Rarotonga, Rarotonga and Auckland, domestic flights within New Zealand and flights between Sydney and Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Our partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways means Airpoints™ members can earn and redeem rewards on Virgin Atlantic services, and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members can earn miles on Air New Zealand services.
Airpoints Gold Elite & Gold members that travel on an Air New Zealand flight number operated by Virgin Atlantic are now able to access a number of benefits. To ensure access to the benefits make sure you select flights with the Air New Zealand “NZ” designator or ask your travel agent to do so.
Status Points are not able to be earned on Virgin Atlantic operated flights, even if travel is on an Air New Zealand code share flight number.
Lounge Access
Airpoints members travelling in Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic operated flights are eligible for complimentary Virgin Atlantic Lounge access. In addition, Airpoints Gold Elite and Gold members travelling on an Air New Zealand flight number operated by Virgin Atlantic in Premium Economy or Economy class are entitled access to Virgin Atlantics lounges at London-Heathrow, Hong Kong and San Francisco.
All you need to do is present your valid Airpoints Gold Elite or Gold card.
Air New Zealand Gold Elite and Gold card holders departing on Virgin Atlantic services are not entitled to use Star Alliance partner or Star Alliance operated lounges regardless if flight number used is the Virgin Atlantic flight number or Air New Zealand code share flight number.
Air New Zealand does not have Air New Zealand flight numbers on Virgin Atlantic operated flights between London-Heathrow and Shanghai and Airpoints Gold Elite and Gold members travelling on these Virgin Atlantic flights in Premium Economy or Economy class are not entitled to use the Virgin Atlantic lounges at London-Heathrow or Shanghai.

In addition to lounge access Airpoints Gold Elite and Gold members travelling on Air New Zealand flight number operated by Virgin Atlantic in Economy & Premium Economy will also receive other benefits on the presentation of their valid Gold Elite & Gold card.
