Koru benefits are available to members when travelling on an Air New Zealand operated flight (with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number).
Some exceptions apply to our alliances on selected routes with Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Air China and United.
If you are not already an Airpoints member when joining Koru, you will be automatically enrolled in the Airpoints programme. With Airpoints you can start earning Airpoints Dollars™ in the air with Air New Zealand and our airline partners, as well as with hotels, rental cars and credit cards. Your Airpoints number is the same as your Koru membership number.
As a Koru member, whenever you're departing on an Air New Zealand operated flight, with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number, you can unwind in our lounges.
Lounge access is also available at partner lounges at selected airports prior to departure on Air New Zealand flights, provided you’re on an Air New Zealand ticket. Below you’ll find lounge access guidelines when travelling with our airline partners on selected routes with Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific, Air China and United.
Air New Zealand operates a Koru Express at the Christchurch Regional Terminal, as well as a regional lounge that is located at the eastern end of the Auckland Domestic Airport. These facilities are close to the regional gates, providing a convenient location to enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks when there isn’t time to visit the Air New Zealand domestic lounge upstairs. One guest is permitted at the Auckland Regional Lounge.
When visiting Koru Express in Christchurch, simply scan your Airpoints card, e-ticket or boarding pass at the entrance gate. We’re sorry, but guests and children cannot be accommodated in Koru Express. Also, complimentary passes cannot be used with this type of lounge.
Koru members can access the Air New Zealand International Lounge when travelling on Air New Zealand operated flights from Auckland to Singapore. In addition, Koru members can access the Air New Zealand International Lounges in Auckland and Christchurch when travelling on Singapore Airlines operated flights with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number. No other benefits are available to Koru members on Singapore Airlines operated flights.
At Changi Airport in Singapore, Koru members can access our partner lounge, the SATS lounge, when travelling to Auckland and departing on an Air New Zealand operated aircraft (flight number NZ281 or SQ4281). Members must be travelling on either an Air New Zealand or Singapore Airlines ticket. One guest is allowed.
Air New Zealand's alliance with Virgin Australia means you'll also benefit from Virgin Australia's trans-Tasman network (not including routes to the Pacific Islands), including access to their lounges. For Koru members this is exciting news. It means you will be able to relax in Virgin Australia’s domestic lounges when flying domestically in Australia, and you will also be able to use Air New Zealand lounges when flying across the Tasman using Virgin Australia operated code share flights.
Simply show your boarding pass and your Koru membership card at the entrance prior to departure of your Virgin Australia operated flight. Subject to space being available, you will also be able to bring one guest (must be travelling with you).
Virgin domestic lounges within Australia are located in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Canberra, Mackay, Cairns and Perth.
Additional baggage allowance
On trans-Tasman flights, if you book an Air New Zealand flight with a NZ flight number (e.g. NZ101 or NZ7000) and your fare includes checked-in luggage, as a Koru member you are entitled to one additional checked-in bag weighing no more than 23kg (no more than three pieces total).
If you travel on Virgin Australia flight numbers (e.g. VA101 or VA8000) across the Tasman or on a flight operated by Virgin Australia domestically within Australia, unfortunately you are not entitled to an additional piece of checked-in luggage through your Koru membership.
When travelling across the Tasman on either Air New Zealand or Virgin Australia operated flights, you can enjoy the other benefits of Koru membership, such as priority check-in and priority baggage.
Unfortunately these same benefits do not extend to travel on Virgin Australia operated services within Australia. However, you are still welcome to access Virgin Australia lounges when travelling within Australia on Virgin Australia services.
As a Koru member, you can access our lounge in Auckland when travelling to Hong Kong or the Thai Airways Business Lounge in Hong Kong when travelling to Auckland, provided you are travelling on an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number (NZ4990-4995 operated by Cathay Pacific and NZ35, NZ85, NZ38, NZ80 operated by Air New Zealand).
Koru members can enjoy priority check-in, priority baggage, additional baggage allowance and priority seating on NZ flight numbers, even if the service is operated by Cathay Pacific (NZ4990-4995) between Hong Kong and Auckland.
Koru benefits and lounge access do not extend to Koru members travelling on Cathay Pacific operated flights between Hong Kong and London, or any other Cathay Pacific operated services not directly bound for Auckland that don't have an Air New Zealand flight number.
Koru members can access the Air New Zealand International Lounge when travelling on Air New Zealand flight numbers (starting with NZ) operated by Air China and departing from Auckland to Beijing. No other benefits are available to Koru members on Air China operated flights.
In Beijing, Koru members will be able to access the BGS Premier Lounge at Beijing International Airport when departing on an Air New Zealand flight number (starting with NZ) to Auckland that’s operated by Air China. One guest is allowed.
Koru members can access the Air New Zealand International Lounge in Auckland when travelling on Air New Zealand flight numbers (starting with NZ) operated by United with an Air New Zealand ticket number. Lounge access also applies to flights operated by Air New Zealand with flight numbers starting with UA, and with a United ticket number, from Auckland to San Francisco. In both cases, one guest is allowed.
In San Francisco, Koru members can access our partner lounge, the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, when departing on an Air New Zealand flight numbers (starting with NZ) operated by United with an Air New Zealand ticket number. Lounge access also applies to flights operated by Air New Zealand with flight numbers starting with UA, and with a United ticket number, from San Francisco to Auckland. In both cases, one guest is allowed.
Koru members will not be able to access lounges in Auckland or San Francisco when travelling on a United operated flight, with a United ticket and flight number (starting with UA).
No other benefits are available to Koru members on United operated flights.
As a Koru member you are welcome to bring one guest with you to Air New Zealand lounges prior to the departure of your Air New Zealand flight. Like you, your guest needs to be departing on an Air New Zealand ticketed and operated flight from that airport that day. Guest access to the lounge is subject to space being available. Children 11 years and under travelling with you will be accommodated in Air New Zealand operated lounges on a complimentary basis if space is available. Please note that we cannot accommodate guests in to Koru Express, located at Christchurch Regional Terminal.
If you are ever travelling with more than one guest departing on an Air New Zealand operated flight with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number, you are welcome to purchase a Koru Guest Card to supplement your guest entitlement throughout the year. Koru Guest Cards can be purchased online if you are a current Koru member. Just log into your Airpoints account and go to the 'My Benefits' page. Guest Cards can also be purchased through the Koru Contact Centre, or at an Air New Zealand international or domestic lounge. Koru Guest Card entry is subject to space being available and is only applicable to Air New Zealand owned, branded and operated lounges. It's important to note that Koru Guest Cards cannot be used at our partner lounges. There is a maximum of one Koru Guest Card per member.

As a Koru member, you will enjoy access to complimentary frequent flyer seating when travelling on an Air New Zealand operated flight (with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number). Frequent flyer seating is often located towards the front of our Economy cabins and includes the Space+zone on our domestic jet services and international A320 services. It is independent from the paid preferred and exit row seating options.
If completing the booking online, it's important that Koru members are either logged in or have submitted their Airpoints number on the Enter Passenger Details page to ensure access to frequent flyer seating and the correct seat select options.
If there are any preferred or exit row seats still available 48 hours before travel, Koru members will be able to select these free of charge as an additional benefit.

To make your journey fast and hassle-free, your baggage will receive priority service wherever possible.
Koru members receive one extra piece of checked-in baggage (up to 23kg) if the fare includes a checked-in bag, up to a maximum of three pieces including the allowance that comes with your airfare.
The additional piece for Koru members is available on Air New Zealand operated and ticketed flights (including NZ7000-7998 series marketed flight numbers operated by Virgin Australia) when checking in with Air New Zealand, where the fare purchased includes a checked bag and Air New Zealand baggage rules apply. This complimentary one additional piece of checked-in baggage is not available on VA operated and ticketed flights (including VA3000-3999 & VA8000-8999 series marketed flight numbers that are operated by Air New Zealand) or on VA ticketed Pacific Island flights operated by Virgin Australia.
For tickets purchased on/after 27 April 2016, passengers travelling in Economy class to Honolulu, Singapore or China departing from Australia or New Zealand on an Air New Zealand operated flight, with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number (including transit journeys via Hong Kong) or vice versa, have a standard checked-in baggage allowance of two pieces, with each bag weighing no more than 23kg.
Koru members can still take an extra bag up to 23kg at no extra charge, providing a maximum allowance of three checked-in bags, when flying in Economy class on these flights only. This excludes Seat (no checked-in baggage still applies) and Seat + Bag (one checked-in bag still applies) airfares to/from Honolulu.
Baggage allowances vary depending on where you are travelling. Confirm your exact baggage allowance.
If checking in with another carrier, including when connecting to an Air New Zealand flight, the extra bag available to Koru members may be charged as excess. Please refer to excess baggage charges.
Please note that overweight and oversized bag charges still apply to any excess baggage allowance. And remember Seat airfares do not include a checked-in baggage allowance, so excess baggage charges apply to all checked-in baggage when booked on these airfares.
Fast Bag is available for single sector or point to point domestic flights in New Zealand. It lets you take your bag (weighing no more than 15kg) right to the aircraft door and collect it at the time you disembark, making regional flying a breeze. This service is only available when travelling on a ticket that includes checked baggage allowance.
Like Elite and Gold members, Koru members are invited to use the Premium check in counters in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin airports, as well as Business Class check in facilities when travelling on Air New Zealand operated flights from any other airport.
If you're flying domestically in New Zealand with carry-on luggage only, you can check in directly at our lounges in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown airports.
Your Koru membership number is your key to making priority reservations. Please make sure you always enter your Koru membership number with every booking you make.
Whenever you would like to make a priority flight reservation, simply call 0800 737 000 (within New Zealand) and enter your Koru membership number. Your call will then be given a higher priority and directed to our appropriate reservations team.
As a Koru member, you can opt in to receive our exclusive quarterly email communication, keep up to date with everything Koru and Air New Zealand and enter exclusive Koru prizes for our members. Receiving our emails also makes sure you won’t miss out on our special retail offers for Koru members.
To update your email preferences, simply log into your Airpoints account online, under 'My Profile' select 'Comms Options' and select Yes to receive Koru communications.
